Byton presented the production model of the electric SUV, called Byton M-Byte, and intends to make it available in Europe as well. The presentation of Byton M-Byte was made at this year's Frankfurt motor show and even though it is the production model, the company says it will take a little longer to get to the final assembly line.
The biggest advantage of Byton M-Byte Premium electric SUV and the main selling point, is the 48-inch curved display, which is the largest mounted in a production car. Observing the production model we find that the Byton M-Byte display was maintained by the concept car.
The M-Byte also features multiple vehicle interaction modes, such as touch control, gesture and voice control, driver face recognition, and physical buttons. Externally, the Byton M-Byte production model differs somewhat from the concept. The rear view cameras have been replaced by more conventional mirrors, the headlights have two additives that function as LED DRL.
Byton promises a very competitive drag coefficient thanks to its low roof and aerodynamically optimized body featuring a fully enclosed front façade, door handles and floating C-pole design that channels the Airflow around the greenhouse.
Byton M-Byte has rear-wheel drive, and has an electric motor that delivers 268hp and the 72kWh Battery offers autonomy of 360 kilometres, based on WLTP. Also, there is a four-wheel version with two electric motors that have a nominal power of 402 hp. This version has 95kWh which provides estimated autonomy of 435 kilometres.
Depending on the region, Byton will offer a fast DC charge of up to 150 kW and an alternating current charge between 3.7 and 22 kW. Using the 150kW charger, the battery can reach up to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.
According to the company, the first Byton M-Byte will be delivered to Chinese customers in the mid-2020, then deliveries to Europe and North America will begin in 2021. The company also says it will open pre-orders in these two markets in 2020. Prices for M-Byte will start at €45,000 in Europe.
