How does the electric car behave on the road? Is the overall quality worthy of the company name? Answers you will get next.

Description from YouTube channel Girl on Swiss Roads :

Some tidbits and news on upcoming reviews on a Truck vs a Bus, a Volkswagen Passat and a Jaguar XJ L

6:25 PM 0

As usual I've been busy. Busy with life. I have also decided to clean up my personal Facebook page of all unwanted and negative clutter. Clutter has been mostly political and anyone who irritates the heck out of me. My Facebook feed is now very positive and I only see what I want to see. Clutter and deadweight holds you back. If you want to achieve more in most things you gotta get rid of it. Life is so much  better without idiots.

Most of you would also realise that I am bilingual. I speak and write fluently (or decently well) in English and the Malay language. I also know how to swear and curse in umpteen more languages too. Being bilingual is a good thing, but one of the languages must be English if you want to spread your wings globally. I started writing in English because I wanted a broader audience instead of using my mother tongue. I also had the privilege to write for publications elsewhere aside from Malaysia. One of the great things about the knowledge to converse in English and the internet is that it opened up an avenue and a platform for me to share my thoughts to others through a channel that is easily accessible most of the time. And since English is the most widely used medium in most continents (Mandarin could be the most used language but it isn't used on all continents globally), it is the way to go. Look where English has gotten me. I get to drive nice vehicles most of the time.

Speaking of vehicles, upcoming reviews and articles will include:

A comparison between a bus and a truck - which is actually more pleasurable to drive
This is me driving a Scania prime mover truck at the Sepang F1 Circuit....
...this is the Scania Marcopolo bus that I drove right after the truck. So which is actually more fun to actually punt around at about 80-90kmh?

A review on the Volkswagen Passat B7 - still on sale in Malaysia till the new one arrives. Is it still a worthy drive? Expect this soon folks. (I just need to start putting the words together for this first).

A review of the M.I.6 Director's car - The Jaguar XJ L 2.0 - The (longer) Drive Experience. This is because I did have a go in one earlier but that was a short spin. This would be up sometime next week, in lieu of the latest James Bond movie, Spectre. Why? Jaguar Land Rover vehicles are used extensively in that film as well as the previous one, Skyfall. What better way to celebrate a Bond movie by driving something that was heavily featured in one?

SISMA AUTO AND QATAR AIRWAYS REWARD CUSTOMER WITH 5-STAR TRIP TO THE UK

8:55 PM 0

This is the second piece of news today that also deals with lucky people. Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia's authorised dealer SISMA Auto Sdn Bhd and Qatar Airways had teamed up during a recent campaign by SISMA Auto called the SISMA Auto 'UK VIP Experience'. The grand prize was two return business class tickets on Qatar Airways’ world’s best Business Class5-star accommodation for 4 days 3 nights, a Land Rover Experience Drive in Solihul and a private tour of Land Rover’s manufacturing facility.

The Grand Prize winner of the SISMA Auto ‘UK VIP Experience’ promotion was property developer Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ramasamy a/l Muthusamy, who was represented by his wife Puan Sri Indra Ghandi at a simple ceremony at SISMA Auto’s Kuala Lumpur City showroom at Menara Worldwide recently.

The lucky winner had purchased a Range Rover Vogue during the competition period, which was one of more than 200 qualifying Jaguars and Land Rover sold in the period. Maybe I need to buy a Jaguar or a Land Rover so that I can get lucky too. But I think my bank account wouldn't survive such an endeavor.

The special Jaguar F-Type Project 7 will make an appearance at the Asia Klasika Motor Festival 2015

8:45 AM 0

If you're into fast Jaguars keep this coming weekend (October 2nd-4th, 2015) free. The limited edition Jaguar F-Type Project 7 will make an appearance at the upcoming Asia Klasika Motor Festival 2015 at the Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside. This also marks its first ever appearance in Malaysia.

The Project 7 is limited to 250 units worldwide and is hand built. It is the most powerful production Jaguar that has ever been built and is fully road legal. It has the familiar Jaguar 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine in 575PS/680Nm form, enabling the all-aluminium-bodied car – which weighs 1585kg – to achieve acceleration from 0-100km/h in 3.9-seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 300km/h. Oh, it also pays homage to the race winning Jaguar D-Type from days gone by. But you can see from the pic above that it is a much larger car than the dainty D-Type.

But that's not the only Jaguar to be at the Classic car festival. Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia will also showcase the Jaguar XJ, Jaguar XF and the still ridiculously beautiful as standard Jaguar F-Type there. Expect some fantastic cars to also be present. I suppose this would be an event for all car enthusiasts out there.

PRESS RELEASE

LIMITED EDITION JAGUAR F-TYPE PROJECT 7 SUPERCAR MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE IN MALAYSIA THIS WEEKEND

Kuala Lumpur, September 28, 2015 – The limited edition Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 supercar will be making its first-ever appearance in Malaysia during the Asia Klasika Motor Festival 2015 at Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside this weekend, from October 2 – 4, 2015.

The stunning hand-built roadster, the most powerful production Jaguar ever built, will be a star attraction at the 6th Malaysia International Vintage and Classic Car Concours, which is a key part of the festival.

At the event, Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (JLRM) and its authorised dealer SISMA Auto will also be showcasing three other Jaguar models – the XJ, XF and F-Type – as part of the British marque’s 80th Anniversary celebrations this year.

“The surprise maiden appearance is a special treat for Jaguar fans and motoring fans in Malaysia as the F-TYPE Project 7 is one of the most coveted supercars today, with production limited to just 250 units globally,” said JLRM Managing Director Tuan Syed Mudzhar Syed Ali .

F-TYPE Project 7 is not only the most focused derivative of the award-winning F-TYPE range, but also the fastest production Jaguar ever built.  It is also the first Jaguar performance vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations team.

Its distinctive roadster body pays tribute to one of the most famous and iconic racing Jaguars: the three-time Le Mans winning D-type, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2014. F-TYPE Project 7’s name pays homage to Jaguar’s seven outright Le Mans wins. It is fully road-legal, with a removable roof and 196-litre stowage space.

The supercar’s power comes from Jaguar’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, now in 575PS/680Nm form, enabling the all-aluminium-bodied car – which weighs 1585kg – to achieve acceleration from 0-100km/h in 3.9-seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 300km/h.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through Jaguar’s eight-speed Quickshift transmission and second generation Electronic Active Differential (EAD). Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes are fitted as standard on F-TYPE Project 7, offering powerful, consistent, fade-free braking. Another standard feature is Torque Vectoring by Braking (TVbB) which, working in conjunction with the EAD, enables extremely precise handling.

Bespoke carbon-fibre aerodynamic aids and a unique suspension set-up enable F-TYPE Project 7 to deliver a truly engaging driving experience.

While F-TYPE Project 7 features performance-focused engineering by Special Vehicle Operations – the engineering and vehicle division of Special Operations – its design has been kept true to the head-turning lines of the original Project 7 concept.

Key design elements include the D-type-inspired fairing behind the driver’s head, shorter windshield, new front bumper, and downforce-increasing aerodynamic modifications – including a carbon-fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and adjustable rear spoiler. However, the single-seater concept has been transformed into a two-seater, with rollover hoops for both driver and passenger now integrated into the design.

Short Drive: The Jaguar XJL 2.0 Ti - If I somehow became CEO of a public listed company, this is what I'd want

5:58 AM 0

I have been a little bit busy enjoying life with my family over this past week. If it's one thing for sure it is with family. So I have decided not to post anything over the past few days and just spend some quality time with them, as well as doing the other things that I like to do in life. I have mentioned before, it isn't just about motoring that interests me. I have pursuits in various other grown men stuff. But do note that it is all about quality of some sort.

I have a certain belief these days. The belief is simple that one should invest in a little quality most of the time in order to lead a fairly fabulous life. The simple motto one should follow is – Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. And so with quality, there is a price to pay for it. But sometimes, you can get a bit lucky as there are versions of quality that would not break the bank.

Now whilst the Jaguar XJL 2.0 Ti in this review would break the bank, and backs, of most of you readers out there, it is actually something worth every sen of the RM653,888 (w/o insurance) asked for it and is considered a bargain against its rivals. It is also a stunningly good drive and one which you actually need to get rid of the chauffeur and drive it yourself. Unless the traffic is ridiculously bad that is.

The current Jaguar XJ series has been around for quite a while. It was first sold in 2010 and has a lightweight aluminium chassis. This makes the Jaguar XJ the lightest of the full sized luxury sedans out there and it actually weighs as much as the smaller, mid-sized XF (BMW 5 series) car. For those that need more comparison, it actually is a Mercedes Benz S-class sized of car but it is as light as a Mercedes E-class. In fact, this long wheel based version is still super light compared to its long wheelbased rivals.

So what does lightness get you? A lot of good things actually. The Jaguar XJL can be stuffed with a smaller engine that what you would expect in a premium full sized sedan. This 'entry-level' model gets the 2.0liter four cylinder engine. Note that the closest competitor in this class runs a 3.0liter V6. This entry level XJL just needs a 2.0liter turbocharged engine with 240hp / 340Nm torque to get it to 100kmh from nought in 7.5seconds and onwards to a top speed of over 240kmh. All with the help of ZF's brilliant 8 speed automatic which shifts smoothly and fast too.

Now because of its light weight, its relatively small petrol engine and extremely efficient gearbox, it actually consumes very little petrol. Even though petrol is relatively cheap these days, the XJL makes ownership costs lower even more by burning less of the stuff needed for it to move. But the best thing about the lightness is how the darn thing handles. I have never actually driven something so large take corners with so much composure and surefootedness. I have drive and sat in full sized BMW 7 series and Mercedes Benz S-classes. The XJL may have the same length and same amount of grandeur, but it handles so much better than expected.

The ride is actually very good on a front steel sprung, rear air suspension setup. It actually rides nicely on its 19inch wheels and if you're seated at the back it is all cosy and quiet. I feel that the S-class is the plusher and slightly quieter of the two, but you're talking about decimal points. Once you get into the front seat and start driving the XJL, its a whole different thing. You can get nice and low in the driver's seat. The steering seems to be nice and solid with feedback coursing through the wheel. You can feel the car responding to your inputs in an instance. There is no delay and there is no feeling of added bulk that you may feel if you're taking a corner in one of the other German luxo-barges.

There is no nose heaviness like in an Audi A6/A8. There is no lurch and complain like in an S-class. Even the ultimate driver's machine called the BMW 7 series has that feeling that is is carrying a tad too much weight compared to this lightweight baby. You push or pull on the steering wheel and it follows your inputs. The nose of the car is also obedient and it has that nicely balanced rear wheel drive feel to it. Floor it mid corner and the tail with help push you through the corner. Jaguar's designers have set up the suspension very well indeed. And again, this is what 1,800+kg does instead of 2,000+kg like its rivals.

Now whilst you're doing all of that you are actually sitting in a cabin that is very cosy. The round air vents, traditional round instrumentation and that strip of walnut remind you that you're actually in something special. So does the leather and that nicely crafted gear selector (I cannot say it is a gearknob as it isn't – it is a round cylinder that rises once you start the Jaguar up). This car has that old school sense of occasion that is only found in some Bentleys priced higher up as well as in the newest Mercedes Benz S-classes. Audis and BMWs seem new school compared to this. It has that old school opulence that is severely lacking these days, even the XF does not feel this traditional. And one must note, a Jaguar may look super modern on the outside but a bit more traditional on the inside. There is no other luxury sedan in the market that has this sort of looks as all others follow the long bonnet, high roof look to it. This one looks so different yet so opulent at the same time. I love it how Jaguar brings unique exterior styling and a sense of old world class inside.

So why is RM650,000+ a bargain in terms of quality? It is actually one of the most affordable full sized luxury sedans sold in Malaysia. All of its rivals from Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz are similarly priced but all of them run a 3.0liter engine. The Ford based 2.0liter turbo in the Jaguar saves a bit on road tax, fuel costs and if you think about it a whole lot on maintenance costs. It may be a tad less refined in terms of having a four cylinder thrum instead of a V6 burble but I find that very minimal as the levels of soundproofing in a full sized luxury car to be high. Not much engine noise actually gets through to the cabin. Do note that the engine will actually cost less to maintain in the long run compared to the petrol-electric hybrid in the S-class as well as the sometimes sensitive and temperamental Audi and BMW cars.

And then there's the handling. I love a large car that can handle. Never have I driven something this long that can be thrown around with abandon. Of course if you crash it, aluminium is harder to repair but the Jaguar Land Rover 3S showroom in Glenmarie is fully equipped to do so. Just ensure that your insurance is up to date and if you do own one, drive the XJL like how a Jaguar is meant to be driven.

If by some fantastic twist of fate I suddenly become a CEO of a company earning RM2.6billion per annum this is the company car I'd like the board to buy for me. No, you don't have to buy me one of every colour. One unit of any colour will do.

Jaguar XJL 2.0 Ti

RM653,888 (w/o insurance)
1,999cc turbocharged 4 cylinder - 240hp 340Nm
8 speed ZF automatic

0-100kmh 7.5seconds
Top Speed 241kmh
Est fuel consumption 9.1liters/100km

Pros – ride, handling, lightness, performance from the lightness, old world luxury inside, equipment levels, fuel economy, affordable road tax, fabulous ZF automatic

Cons – Sometimes people want to brag about engine size and you only have a 2.0liter, S- class slightly more plush riding and quieter, wish it were cheaper

Conclusion – In a perfect world the 3.0liter supercharged version would be the one to get, but this car handles like a dream. No other large sedan drives like it. Looks like a dream too. Makes you think you're working for M.I.6 if you're being driven in one.

Sisma auto officially opens its new Jaguar Land Rover 3S Centre in Glenmarie

8:07 AM 0

Today is the day before the start of the Fasting month and the last of a slew of events that automotive manufacturers have decided to do before things actually slow down a fair bit (with the exception of some binge eating and drinking of water when it comes to breaking fast). Over the past month or so I have attended numerous launches of vehicles, products and did a few tests. In fact, there have been so many launches until I have a few articles and test drive reviews in the back burner.

Anyway, today Sisma Auto, the largest official Jaguar Land Rover dealer in Malaysia has officially opened its new Jaguar Land Rover 3S centre located at Glenmarie, Shah Alam. This is the company's second major new branch after the one located at Menara Worldwide, Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. This latest 3S centre is actually located adjacent to its old facility in Glenmarie and has a total build up area of 25,000 square feet. The new dual-brand Jaguar Land Rover 3S centre features double the service capacity with 16 work bays and an interactive bay.  It has a very spacious showroom, at twice the size of the previous showroom and has the capacity to showcase the complete range of Jaguar and Land Rover models.  According to SISMA Auto Managing Director Syed Khalil Syed Ibrahim, the company had invested over RM2 million into this new centre and it definitely shows.

This 3S centre offers all major vehicle repair and maintenance services; namely mechanical and electrical systems, steel and aluminium body and paint works, air-conditioning systems and even auto-detailing. It has all of the special tools required to keep any Jaguar or Land Rover in prefect running condition.

Aside from this, Sisma Auto also has plans to invest a total of RM20 million into new 3S centre in Penang to cater to the folks up north. It will start with an interim facility sometime in July 2015.

Things are moving in a big way for Jaguar Land Rover. The Jaguar car line-up in Malaysia consists of the XF, XJ sedans and the F type coupe. These are impressive vehicles that are actually very, very interesting to drive. The XJ L 2.0 (above) with its fully aluminium chassis construction is a mind bending drive as it keeps things so light that is actually handles like a smaller car instead of what it is....a full sized, long wheelbase luxury sedan. In fact, the smaller XF feels as nimble as the larger car or vice versa. That XF is a brilliant car too, and what everything sports sedan should feel like. I will write about the short driving experience of these two cars soon. Hopefully will get all of the backlog of writing done during this no eating and drinking period.

Also expect the small all new XE series car to be launched in Malaysia sometime before the end of this year too.

As for the Land Rover range of vehicles, everything is actually quite good. Icons like the Land Rover Defender and the flagship Range Rover carry the badge well. The other models like the Land Rover Discovery 4, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport will be supplemented with the all new Land Rover Discovery Sport soon.

These are exciting times for Jaguar Land Rover. Unique designs, styling and character backed up by heritage for those of you who can afford these vehicles. Totally different from the usual slew of German luxury vehicles we see on our roads yet still quite familiar and totally at ease in terms of quality, luxury and specification. And that heritage, tons of it. Heritage is always a good thing to have in a luxury brand. Both Jaguar and Land Rover have it in spades.

NEW MODELS DRIVE SISMA AUTO’S RAPID EXPANSION
Company to retain its unique family-owned business approach and personalised service focus even as it expands

Glenmarie, June 17, 2015 – A host of highly desirable new models in the pipeline is driving dual-brand Jaguar Land Rover dealer SISMA Auto Sdn Bhd’s rapid network expansion.

The company has opened its new Glenmarie 3S centre, its second major new branch in less than a year.  The first was its city showroom, SISMA Auto Kuala Lumpur, at Menara Worldwide, Jalan Bukit Bintang, which commenced operations in October 2014.

SISMA Auto is also investing up to RM20 million in a new Jaguar Land Rover 3S centre in Penang to cater to the Northern region.  In the meantime, the company would be opening an interim facility there in July.

The rapid expansion is to support incoming new models that are expected to grow Jaguar Land Rover’s customer base in Malaysia in the near term. These include the highly-anticipated Land Rover Discovery Sport; and the new XF sport sedan, all-new XE compact executive sedan and F-Pace, the first-ever performance crossover from Jaguar.

Both brands have enjoyed renewed popularity in Malaysia in recent years, benefiting from Jaguar Land Rover’s aggressive product development strategy.

Jaguar and Land Rover have been introducing a succession of new models that marry design, innovation, performance, practicality and capability that have helped broaden the appeal and reach of the two brands.

Speaking at the official opening, SISMA Auto Managing Director Syed Khalil Syed Ibrahim pledged that the company would retain its signature family-owned business approach and emphasis on personalised service even as it embarked on a network expansion.

“This approach has served us well for the past two decades as SISMA Auto became synonymous with the Jaguar brand.  Nothing will change despite our new expanded role as a dual-brand Jaguar Land Rover dealer and the fact that we are now growing our network. We will ensure that our customers are able to focus on enjoying the ownership experience while leaving the rest to us,” he said.

He cited the complimentary pick-up and drop-off service from customers’ residences or offices as one of the highlights of the premium ownership experience from SISMA Auto.

“The city-centre location of our Menara Worldwide showroom also makes it an extremely convenient and accessible service drop-off point for our customers,” he added.

SISMA Auto’s new Glenmarie 3S centre is located adjacent to its existing facility at Temasya Industrial Park, Glenmarie.

With a total build up area of 25,000 square feet, the new dual-brand Jaguar Land Rover 3S centre will feature double the service capacity with 16 work bays and an interactive bay.  Its spacious showroom, at twice the size of the previous showroom, has the capacity to showcase the complete range of Jaguar and Land Rover models.

The new showroom will also feature some of the most sophisticated tools and equipment, including more than 500 special tools and diagnostic equipment unique to Jaguar and Land Rover, that will make it a truly one-stop facility for all repair and maintenance needs.

Customer comfort comes in the form of massage chairs, freshly brewed premium coffee and tea and refreshments as well as entertainment for the entire family at the waiting lounge.  A vehicle configuration section and dedicated delivery bay enhance the purchasing experience while ample parking spaces at the front make customers feel more welcome. For more information on SISMA Auto, please go to www.sismaauto.com

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia organises off-road experience - So I got to try the Range Rover Sport

9:21 PM 0
Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (JLRM), authorised importer and distributor of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in Malaysia recently organised a 5 day special off-road driving experience event at Sepang to owners, potential buyers and members of the media. More than 500 Land Rover owners had the opportunity to experience first hand the features and systems featured on Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles. And there are lots of features in all of them. They also were given the opportunity to have a sneak preview of the new Land Rover Discovery Sport (below) as well as the complete range of Jaguar cars in Malaysia. This includes the very tasty and mind blowingly fantastically sounding Jaguar F-Type coupe. They were like trumpets from heaven. But, before I start dreaming of exhaust notes, let's get back to the story at hand.

Managing Director of JLRM, Tuan Syed Mudzhar Syed Ali said that the event was meant to help owners and prospective owners to appreciate the Land Rover brand as well as realise and experience the fullest capabilities of the vehicles. So under guidance of certified Land Rover instructor Mr Kenneth Yap, the owners, prospects and media took to the muddy off road circuit laid out for them.

The participants were taught the off-road driving basics such as understanding vehicle dimensions, clearance limitations, how to tackle hills, ruts, ditches, traversing slopes, crossing deep water and elephant steps. Lots of technical stuff that all Land Rovers can actually tackle including the very on-road biased Range Rover Evoque (pictured above). You would not have imagined the chic little SUV to be able to do mud crawling but it did. I don't need to say anything about the iconic Defender, which showed off its anti stall capabilities where you could walk it like a dog with the driver steering from outside of it as it crawls on its own pace.

The Instructors also shared Land Rover's  'Fragile Earth' philosophy, which stressed that good off-road driving meant getting to the destination without harming people and damaging the environment and the vehicle. I.e, you don't simply chop up the jungle you're in just to get to the other side.

The Range Rover showing its worth.

All Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles feature lots of equipment and technology. You get everything from electronic Hill Descent Control, Differential Locks, Traction Control, High and Low Range gears (with on the fly shifting) , Terrain Response, 4x4 information display, dynamic stability control and Air Suspension (equipped on the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery) which enables ride height adjustment.

I happened to tackle the whole off-road course in a Range Rover Sport 3.0 V6 supercharged petrol. There was the whole range of Land Rovers from the Defender, Evoque, Discovery, Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover. But I wanted to be in the Sport. I've always had a spot for the Range Rover Sport because it represents something slightly different from the usual stately full monty Range Rover. It does luxury with a tinge more sportiness and since I haven't laid my hands on one, why not. I also did not really bother with the Defender as that icon would have breezed through all of the tests laid out before it. It has been doing this for over 55 years you know. And I did have an off-road experience in one somewhere in the middle of Raub, Pahang a couple of years ago. So the Sport it was.

Driving the Range Rover Sport 3.0 V6 Supercharged Petrol

This, is what a Range Rover should look like in these parts of the world

First launched in 2013, the Range Rover Sport takes its styling cues from the current full sized Range Rover as well as the smaller Evoque.  This premium Sport Utility Vehicle is a very capable vehicle on road as well as off road with its adaptive and height adjustable air suspension. Unlike some other brands, a Range Rover still excels off-road. It may spend most of its time at country clubs, hotel lobbies or for other mundane on road duties it never forgets its off-road roots. The car, can climb gradients, slopes, ruts, bumps and most rought terrain even on its road biased tyres. Yes, the track isn't super hard core, but it covers most aspects of off-roading without the need for real knobby tyres and winches.

We utilised all of its gizmos to get it through the circuit and on muddy surfaces, the SUV excelled. No issues with traction. Even when we were sliding around, this 2144kg luxury SUV was a breeze to handle. The supercharged power helped. Just a prod is enough. It has 340ps and 450Nm torque to play around. A slight whine of the supercharger pulley tells you that it is working but nothing really gets loud or noisy. It could give junior hot hatches a workout. 0-100kmh in 7.2seconds and a maximum speed of 210kmh.

Inside, even whilst traversing ditches, ruts and alternating holes or bumps, the car is refined. The driver's seat is also a nice place to be in with a commading driving position and enough adjustments to be truly comfortable. I do believe that the height adjustable air suspension works well in keeping the car in order. As does the Terrain Response systems and Active Dynamics. When I was seated at the rear, I could still keep on typing messages through my smartphone.

Actually a whole lot of stuff is adjustable in the Range Rover Sport. It is a gadget lover's dream. I also have to add that the Range Rover Sport isn't something really different from the usual bunch of European cars that most of us are used to. Quite similar and reassuring.

The overall ambiance inside the Range Rover Sport is strikingly similar to what most of us have experienced in the German brands (which is usually the default choice when buying a luxury vehicle in these parts of the world). You could say that it has that Germanic feel to it. It does not feel like something totally British (or Indian since TATA owns JLR) like Range Rovers from days gone by. It feels like what most of us are used to in terms of feel and tactility. No English drawing room feel these days. It is all neat, ergonomic and tidy. Like we are used to. But this isn't a bad thing. The Range Rover Sport still has a sense of occasion. It has road presence and it also has that interior presence that you'd want from owning a luxury vehicle.

Of course, the controls and switchgear is also nice to touch, caress and fondle. Everything feels premium. From the leather seats, steering wheel to the dashboard. It feels right, but I had wished that this 3.0 supercharged variant's interior had the light coloured wood inlays like the larger 5.0liter version as the cabin was all black. It felt good but a little too monotone. Small matter, as everything worked perfectly. But you do have to get used to the slightly confusing (at first) gear lever and its numerous controls and buttons right beside it. I suppose you do need to either read the darn owner's manual or spend a good half an hour figuring out which button does what. Yes. It is a very, very, very complicated piece of machinery and technology with tons of settings and option menus to select. Do bear that in mind folks. You need to know what you're getting into if you want one in your garage.

If the Sport came with proper off-road tyres it would be a walk in a park as it had an answer for most off-road situation that was thrown at it. Then when it was time to head back to the gathering point which was located a few hundred meters away, we just lowered the Sport down to normal ride height setting and blasted off. On the road it was cossetting, quiet and comfortable. Unfazed about what it just went through and its passengers cocooned from the outside world till it was time to open the door and exit its cozy interior.

It was all dried mud on the outside, but totally luxurious on the inside with only our muddy shoes as proof of us stepping in and out of the Sport. I loved the time I spent in the Sport. It also has some semblance of character and that quite elusive sense of occasion in cars that are sorely lacking these days. For a SUV that had normal road biased tyres and a slightly hefty pricetag of RM857,888, it still felt so right plugging around in the muddy tracks located around the Sepang F1 Circuit. The only thing I really wanted was a nicer pricetag. But we can't have them all can't we.

In short, the 2015 Range Rover Sport 3.0 V6 Supercharged is an extremely nice place to be in whether you are driving or seated at the back. I suppose you may balk at its slightly enormous pricetag. But if you can afford it, by all means do so.
