A-pillars in Cars These Days

7:03 AM 0
I wrote a piece on how A-Pillars and side mirrors in cars have grown over the years over on MyAutoblog.org. A very relevant topic if I may say so.

A Hyundai Atoz suddenly appeared out of nowhere. 'Nowhere' in this context meant that it appeared after it was hidden behind the A-pillar as well as the large elephant-like driver's side mirror."

Peugeot 308 Gets A New Nose and Hamann Tunes The F10 5 Series M Sport

3:06 PM 0
The 308 will be facelifted soon. The new nose is slimmer in looks and it loses some of its mouth size. It should. The current nose is so happy and toothy that it makes a basking shark seem tame. Compare this with the current Pug 308 and you'll know what I mean.

HAMANN shoves in its bodykit on the BMW 5 Series M Sport and I do a little rhyme about it.

Click here to read about that.

Both posted over at Myautoblog.org.

2010 Peugeot 308 VTi 1.6 Automatic - The tame, slightly toothless French Lion

8:14 PM 0

I posted this review I did on the 2010 Peugeot 308 VTi on MyAutoBlog.org. I somehow do not like how this car handles, but from a Malaysian point of view, the only thing that makes this car a worthy purchase over its RM100k price range competitors is that:

  • It's French. Therefore it is the cheapest continental car you can buy at this price range.
  • It's pretty well built and the interior looks good compared to the Honda City, Toyota Vios, Altis and whatever in the price range.
  • It is really a whole lot of car for the price. The looks are very modern and nothing's conservative about it when it comes to styling. Compare this to a Nissan Latio sedan or a Nissan Syphilis or a Corolla Altis (the latter two are more expensive than this car) and you know you've got a winner here.
  • While I know I mentioned that the handling's a little sad (at least the 308 Turbo has more grip and more power to play around with - but it isn't a good handling example also as it does the same hop, skip and jump over undulations and mid corner bumps ), the car allows some sense of class into a category that's limited in choice. If you're not into driving, or a car for the wife to ferry kids, it'll do that just fine. And you'll look better doing so than in any of the cars stated above.
Please do not throw resale value in here. If you start thinking about resale value, you lead a very dull and uninteresting life. Really. Start living a little.

A Peugeot 308 1.6 Turbo review for CarThrottle.com

9:18 PM 0
Hello people. This is a review on the Peugeot 308 1.6THP Turbo auto that is sold here in Malaysia on a UK based website. One important point I have to state is that the review was written from a Euro-centric point of view, where car prices make sense and you don't get a 308 turbo selling for the same price as a Lancer 2.0GLS or a Civic 1.8 or much cheaper than a 1.6 Golf Mk5 that sold here for RM150K.

In our market, I guess you HAVE to live with its major handling shortcomming as no car in the RM115K price range would give you a corker of an engine, overstyled French design, a decently large interior and high speed cruising pleasure (not windy road pleasure, mind you). If you were to compare to the others in the price range, you may be swayed by what the Peugeot 308 offers.

The Missus and I are trying to poison my sister-in-law to go get the 1.6 normally aspirated version that costs around RM95K. RM95K for a French car against a RM84K Kia Forte, RM90K Honda City, RM80K Toyota Vios, RM85K for a Mazda 2 hatch, RM99K for a Hyundai i30 and a RM92K Nissan Latio sport hatchback. This is one of the most confusing car markets around as car classes overlap like crazy.  Hopefully this would mean that I get to try that version too.

Have a read guys and gals. The article can be found in detail here. Feel free to comment.
