A fully electric powered ferry boat in Denmark managed to complete its maiden voyage last week. This is another project in the effort to reduce the emission of pollutants from shipping, in view of the stricter European regulations which have been in force since 2020.
The electrified ferry, named Ellen, sailed between the Fynshav and Søby Islands in southern Denmark, powered by a 4.3 megawatt battery. The yacht is capable of transporting 200 passengers and 30 cars.
The company that manufactured the battery, the Swiss Leclanche, states that the electrically powered ferry will limit the emission of 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide and 1.4 tonnes of sulphur dioxide each year thanks to the clean drive system.
